Geotechnical Construction Testing
The Standard Oil Building Parking Garage was constructed
in the early 1960s and was proposed for a vertical expansion
of one to two stories. In order to evaluate the feasibility
of completing the vertical expansion, GeoConcepts conducted
a field investigation using soil test borings and in situ
pressuremeter testing. The in situ testing was used to
obtain more accurate estimates of soil strength parameters.
Loads for both one- and two-story additions were analyzed
for new and differential settlement, respectively. Based
on the initial evaluation, GeoConcepts was contracted to
evaluate options for improving soil conditions in order
to allow the two story option to proceed. During construction,
GeoConcepts monitored the soil improvement activities,
and then provided materials testing services for the planned
two story vertical expansion.
