GeoConcepts completed a geotechnical engineering investigation for the Reflecting Pool which has been leaking due to cracks within the pool structure. The investigation was conducted to identify the cause of settlement of the concrete pool liner so the design team could develop feasible conceptual remediation design options. Six hollow stem auger test borings and two dilatometer (DMT) test borings were drilled within the Reflecting Pool project boundary. Using the data collected GeoConcepts was able to provide recommendations regarding rehabilitation of the Reflecting Pool slab and earthwork. These recommendations included utilizing a micropile foundation system to support the pool concrete liner. The investigation involved extensive coordination with National Park Service staff in order to limit disturbance to visitors.
