Kristy Balwinski has 22 years of experience in geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeologic engineering and is a LEED 2.0 Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council. She will oversee several process improvement initiatives as well as being responsible for business development to public sector clients and managing public sector projects.
Ms. Strobel has 24 years of experience providing geotechnical services throughout all project phases including planning, design, and construction. In addition, she has specialized experience in engineering geology, hydrogeologic evaluations, karst studies and environmental studies. She serves as the Geoscience Services Team Leader where she oversees projects and personnel involved with geophysical and geotechnical investigations as well as construction materials testing. Additionally, Ms. Strobel is an active member of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) and Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories (WACEL).
Ms. Sanderson is responsible for identifying/responding to requests for proposals, strategic teaming, and developing client relationships. In addition, Ms. Sanderson facilitates and manages GeoConcepts’ business development efforts. She serves on the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) DC Post Board of Directors and is an active member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
Dr. Upadhyaya has 16 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, focusing on design and construction management services. His design experience includes field investigation management, foundation settlement calculations, slope stability analyses, earthwork requirements, shallow and deep foundations. His construction experience includes bridge construction, compacted structural fill, concrete sampling and observations, and various types of foundation inspections.
Mr. King has 21 years of experience in all aspects of construction related geotechnical materials testing services. He is directly responsible for management of quality control technicians, preparation of proposals, and managing a variety of construction projects throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. He is very familiar with the regulations and requirements set forth by the US Army Corps of Engineers, State Departments of Transportation (VDOT, MDOT, DDOT, etc.), and local jurisdictions (Fairfax County, Montgomery County, DCRA, etc. Critical Structures Programs). Mr. King is an active member of Washington Area Council of Engineering Laboratories (WACEL).
Ms. Smith-Zakowicz has 14 years of experience in geologic, geotechnical, hydrogeologic, and environmental engineering. She serves as the Staff Team Leader and Corporate Training Manager where she oversees training procedures for all levels of personnel within the company. Ms. Smith-Zakowicz is President of the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Northern Virginia Chapter, the Chair of the CREW National Capital Committee which includes the Washington DC and Suburban Maryland chapters, and active member on the CREW Programs committee.
Mr. Lewis has more than 27 years of experience in geotechnical, environmental, and hydrogeologic engineering. He is responsible for the management of the firm’s business development and quality control efforts. Mr. Lewis serves as Chairman of the Route 28 Highway Transportation Improvement District Commission, on the Loudoun County Economic Development Advisory Commission Ad Hoc Committee for Proposed New Potomac River Bridge, and on the Board of Directors of the Oatlands Plantation. He is also actively involved with NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association and the ASFE/Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA).
Mr. Burkart has 32 years of experience in geotechnical engineering and materials testing, and has provided project design and technical review of over 1,500 projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is active with the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA), Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA), and American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE). He currently serves on the University of Maryland Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering Board of Visitors.
